BJ Community NHW  Inaugural Open day - organised subsequent to the previous
organisation fell apart as the unfortunate result of the national NHW 2006 demise
and and personal predicament of the then village co-ordinator.
The result and attendance at the Open day illustrated clearly the positive attitude
and reception of those in the community to the acceptance and ethos of the NHW
by the recruitment of 25 Street Co-ordinators added to the existing 13.
All achieved in just 11 days of  publicising the re-formation of the Community NHW

The BJ village location produces many exquisite scenes due to its attractive
almost due south location built into/alongside a geographic fault line and the River Trent
Flood Plain providing an oversight/looking south over two horizons

The River Trent has always been Nottms/BJ's water access to the East Coast. Plus the
direct route inland for the marauding Vikings raiders and the Romans.Current it provides
excellent leisure facilities for Boaters and Anglers

Narrow boaters, Motor launches, sailing boats, canoes and water skiers are
invariably seen locally  PLUS of course the speedier ways for a water traveller

Neither  "Burt nor Joyce" this time  A local favoured leisure, walking/strolling spot,
a recently completed Flood defence system -  "Julie O'Neill Way"-  (unofficially named
in recognition of her tireless work to ensure BJ village was provided with protection
from the elements.  Regretfully "Julie" was taken away from us prematurely . ).

A Re enforcement of my Blog at
Here is a selection of my daily twitterings to bring the subject to the fore and in front of those who may be able to re-enforce my views and create change

Before you read my "Twitterings" Here is a REALLY interesting link and initiative for everyone incl police/PCC and NHWatchers to read and note - http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-suffolk-20597953

My Twitterings ..  ..  ..  ..

GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOD MOOOOOOOOOORNIIIIIIING to all in NG14 - Tweeting NOTTS COPS (hoping others will join soon) & to NHW members everywhere

League table for TWEETING by local county police forces - NOTTS COPS hug bottom place with LEICESTER top, LINCS, DERBY, S YORKS all above

SUGGEST  NOTTSCOPS- Regular DIGITAL engagement between Neighbourhood Beat teams & local NHW schemes to be established as routine ASAP

At local levels we the NHW need to ENGAGE with our "Neighbourhood Beat Teams". Yes! NEIGHBOURHOOD BEAT TEAMS also need to ENGAGE with us

NHW Schemes/coordinators/members have vital role in creating, maintaining community's contribution in crime prevention/solving.

However NHW in this digital age has same objectives, yet reqs change in engagement with Neighbourhood Beat Teams, NH Alert initiative & YES TWITTER

We should all be proud, stand tall & united as NHW members locally and nationwide. We member/volunteers are owners of our individual schemes

If U R a NHW scheme Coordinator/member PLEASE make yourself known for together we R stronger and more effective than we R as individuals

A PROACTIVE "NHW" plus ENGAGED "Neighbourhood Beat Teams" can BENEFIT society /local COMMUNITIES. However it does REQUIRE real ENGAGEMENT

I know from the NOTTS POLICE website all the BEAT TEAMS in the county. Yet R the BEAT TEAMS aware of all the NHW schemes in the county ?

As a NHW Coordinator I am perturbed/concerned with absence of direct relationships with other NHW's & Beat Teams in NG14 & adjoining areas

Cannot understand the need/expense for Police Crime SURVEYS. Its tantamount to saying DONT know what is happening. Will U let us know ? :-)

ALL NOTTS NHW schemes & their members, show yourself and be heard by everyone in your COMMUNITY and also ENGAGE your NEIGHBOURHOOD BEAT team

There is small number of excellent NHW schemes in the county It cannot fail to be beneficial if ALL county schemes became visible/prominent

POLICE NEIGHBOURHOOD BEAT TEAMS relationships with NHW schemes exists in many areas nationwide. NOTTS PCC should ensure it happens in county

"TELL" me & I will "FORGET" - "SHOW" me & I will "REMEMBER" - "INVOLVE" me & I will "UNDERSTAND" We can all benefit by adopting this mantra

"Wish we could of have more frequent NG14 NEIGHBOURHOOD BEAT UPDATES in ANY FORM/STYLE Pleeeese ! Most communities/residents have same view

Verbatim copy NEIGHBOURHOOD UPDATE (2nd December 2012) as of Notts Police website

BURTON JOYCE

Over the last month we have had the following crimes committed in the Village.
There have been two thefts from motor vehicles, these occurred on the same night and in the Padleys Lane and Black Acre area, the offenders took the wheel trims from the cars. Our advice is to secure the wheel trim to the wheel using a plastic tie wrap, this works in two ways it prevent the trim from just being ripped off and also should the trim come loose whilst the vehicle is being driven it will not fly off and hit another vehicle or pedestrian.
We have had a house burglary on Chesterfield Drive that occurred overnight with entry being gained by a rear door.
Two Bay trees have also been maliciously damage on the Bridle Road this occurred overnight.
On the Anti Social Behaviour front we have had a couple of calls but no particular pattern has been identified.
We continue to receive calls relating to Scrap Metal Collectors in the area, the main call we get is that the collectors are collecting items that have not yet been disposed of by the householder. Our advice is if you don’t want to lose it put it out of sight, experience has shown that if the collectors can see it they will take it. After all it is your property please secure it accordingly.

Parking around the village continues to raise its head and on street parking seems to have increased over the last few months, can I suggest that all residents be considerate with their parking and think about how and where they park, we continue to get vehicles parked on pavements causing people with children and pushchairs to walk in the road. Most upsetting is that when this behaviour is challenged some drivers have the nerve to be abusive to the challenger. If you suffer this type of behaviour please report it and we will take action against the perpetrator.
Parking is also our new priority within the village and we will look at taking action with regard to parking.

LAMBLEY

Over the last month we have 6 crimes reported on the Lambley Beat code.
The breakdown of these crimes are three theft from motor vehicles all of which occurred overnight two on Clovelly Drive and one on Axmouth Drive. The other crimes are a burglary on Lapford Close when the car keys and vehicle were stolen.
We have had a break into a shed on The Dumbles.
And lastly two electric fence energiser units have been stolen from stables on Catfoot Lane.
There have been no reports of anti social behaviour within the village over the last month, but we will continue to patrol the village on a regular basis.
Please remember that if you wish to make contact with your local beat team at one of our engagements within the village and these are on the web site. There is one engagement at Floralands and the other in the Lambley car park.

STOKE BARDOLPH

Over the last month there have been no crimes reported at Stoke Bardolph the main concern has been the flooding of the River Trent, happily the Trent flooding has now subsided and as far as we are aware very little damage was caused to properties within the area, in fact the Ferry Boat Public House remained open throughout most of the flooding which is in itself commendable.
Speeding in the area continues to be a problem that we are addressing.
There have been no reports of anti social behaviour within the village over the last month.

Angry River Trent 2012

Swollen river @ BJ "Nelson" Old Fording Point

To the Left of the field gate is the original "Old Grimsby Road"

  Original R Trent/Nelson Landing Point

The River Trent and Burton Joyce has shared much of their history. From the travellers to and from Grimsby and Lincolnshire, using the river and its many fording points for the old road, together with the numerous marauding hordes of Norsemen, Romans etc. BJ alway played a significant role. An entire familiy of BJ menfolk (Royalists) will have used this point, to cross over the river to join ( and be slaughtered ) in the horrendous battle lost and won by their opponents at nearby Shelford
